Overview

Grip Studios is looking for a Technical Animator to drive the integration and functionality of animation systems in our projects. You’ll work closely with Animators, Tech Art, and Engineering to create efficient, high-quality character and creature animations that enhance gameplay. From advanced character rigs and animation blueprints to procedural systems like IK and physics, your work will ensure smooth, responsive, and immersive animation experiences in our games.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in technical animation for AAA/AA games.
  • Proficiency in Maya (and Motion Builder) software for rigging and animation.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant Maya plugins and tools (Advanced skeleton, ngSkinTools).
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 5, including Control Rig, animation Blueprints, and state machines.
  • Strong understanding of rigging, procedural animation, and physics-based animation systems.
  • Experience with IK, motion warping, and runtime animation adjustments.
  • Python or Blueprint scripting experience for animation pipeline automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a keen eye for animation quality and performance.
  • Portfolio demonstrating rigged characters and real-time animation systems in Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain Maya rigs for bipeds, quadrupeds and creatures with multiple legs.
  • Develop and maintain animation Blueprints, blend spaces, state machines, and Control Rigs in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Work with MetaHuman and custom rigs for character and creature animation.
  • Implement procedural animation solutions, including IK, Look-At, real-time physics, and foot placement systems.
  • Integrate physics-based animation (ragdolls, cloth, Chaos Physics) for realistic movement.
  • Optimize animation assets and debug animation-related performance issues.
  • Collaborate with Tech Art and Engineering to develop scalable animation systems.
  • Ensure animation fidelity and fluidity while maintaining real-time performance.
  • Work with animators to streamline workflows and improve animation pipelines.
  • Provide technical support and documentation for animation systems and best practices.
